This afternoon at a press conference in Bismarck, Hedger provided forms and letters that show she's paid taxes and stated North Dakota as her home for the past five years.

The North Dakota Constitution says a candidate for secretary of state must be a resident of the state for five years before the election.

Hedger made public a letter from the North Dakota Tax Department and also the form that shows she lists North Dakota for tax withholding during her time working in Senator Byron Dorgan's office, starting in May 2001.

(Kristin Hedger/D - Candidate for Sec. of State): "As a congressional aid, as a staffer, I was seen in the eyes of the law, as one who's living, may as well be working, here in Bismarck."

Hedger says she's responding to a statement from the state Republican Party director Jason Stverak.

Earlier this week, Stverak asked Hedger in a press release to provide information to the media, concerning her residency.
